This is another heirloom recipe, unattributed, from The Woodland Chapel Cookbook printed sometime after 1988. If it’s difficult to see the bubbles in the photo above, the recipe makes the type of bubbles that you blow out of a wand or a bubble gun.
These seem to be a bit stronger than some commercially made bubble mixture — the bubbles lasted on the carpet for almost a minute rather than popping immediately or after a few seconds. It was plenty of time for my cat, Hei Hei, to stare at them in confusion, occasionally batting at a bubble that didn’t pop right away.
The recipe itself is super easy if you have glycerin, which is the only uncommon ingredient. I used liquid dish detergent for this batch. Entertain your kids, entertain your cats, or just have your own damn fun. Bubbles are for everyone.
1/4 c. glycerin
1/2 c. water
1 tbsp. liquid detergent
Stir and store in a covered jar. Use an empty spool or straws to blow bubbles, or load them into a bubble gun.
