Dark Hot Chocolate

dark hot chocolate in a holiday mug with a dollop of whipped cream

A friend recently gifted me with some jet black cocoa, and so I decided to put it to use in some hot chocolate mix! This makes a deliciously dark, rich hot chocolate, based on this recipe.

This makes a little more than 3 cups. Pack it up in pretty containers for homemade gifts, or horde it for your own chocolate cravings.

1 c. granulated sugar
2 tbsp. cornstarch
6 ounces dark chocolate chips
1 cup jet black cocoa powder (or any kind you like)
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract or the seeds from a tiny segment of fresh vanilla bean
1/4 tsp. fine sea salt

Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until powdery. If this is too much for your blender, stick with the chocolate chips, granulated sugar, and salt, then whisk into the rest.

To mix, heat up 1 cup of milk and add to 3 tbsp. hot chocolate. Serve with marshmallows or whipped cream to enhance the decadence.

Keep in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 months.
