Cocktail Sauce

Just a small bowl of cocktail sauce

Cocktail sauce isn’t something I use frequently, so it doesn’t make sense for me to buy it — especially when it’s so easy to whip up in a couple minutes. As an added bonus, making your own is a more customizable experience. Want to avoid high fructose corn syrup? Just make sure it isn’t in your ketchup. Want it spicier? Add more hot sauce. Want it to clean out your sinuses? Add more horseradish. Want it to clean your kitchen? Eh, there are limits to what cocktail sauce can do.

This recipe (inspired by this one) makes about 3/4 cup.

1/2 c. ketchup
1 tbsp. horseradish (or more if you really love the stuff)
1/2 tbsp. (about 1 1/2 tsp.) lemon juice
1/2 tbsp. (about 1 1/2 tsp.) Worcestershire sauce
2 tsp. hot sauce (I like to use gochujang)
1 pinch (~1/4 tsp.) salt
1 dash ground black pepper

Add all ingredients together and stir. Boom, you have cocktail sauce! Give it a taste and adjust the flavors as desired.
