This is a delightfully cinnamonny alternative to boring butter. Use it on toast, pancakes, or as a decadent substitute in recipes.
It’s also an amazingly easy recipe. Start with softened butter that’s been sitting at room temperature for a few hours.
The original version of this recipe comes from The Brothers Grimm Cookbook: Recipes Inspired by Fairy Tales by Robert Tuesley Anderson. If you like to experiment with different extract flavors, try substituting the vanilla with ginger or cardamom, or try a different ground spice instead of cinnamon.
1/2 c. unsalted butter, softened (1 stick)
1 tsp. ground cinnamon (or other spice of choice)
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract (or ginger or other extract)
2-3 tbsp. powdered sugar, sifted or whisked
In an electric mixer, beat the butter, cinnamon, and vanilla. Add the sugar a little at a time, until the butter has the desired sweetness. Mix until completely smooth.
Store in the fridge and serve at room temperature for easy spreading.
